Cultural Enrichment

Heredia-Arriaga also continues to expand access to enrichment opportunities that support the whole child. Through Proposition 28 funding, first-grade students are currently participating in their second instructional cycle of Ballet Folklórico. This program strengthens cultural identity, builds confidence, and reinforces a sense of belonging while expanding access to the arts. Students will showcase their learning at a Spring performance at Family Literacy Night on February 12 at 5:30 PM, providing families an opportunity to celebrate student growth and strengthen school–home connections.

Why Heredia-Arriaga Is Unique

Heredia-Arriaga School continues to demonstrate strong instructional practices grounded in high-quality teaching, intentional systems, and a clear commitment to biliteracy. Across grade levels, teachers collaborate in Professional Learning Communities to strengthen literacy instruction aligned to the research and California standards, while honoring the distinct linguistic structures of both English and Spanish.

Instruction & Student Learning

Our Lobos benefit from strong routines, high levels of engagement, and developmentally appropriate instruction. Classrooms emphasize language-rich centers, visual and hands-on supports, chunked lessons, and opportunities for student choice. These practices build early literacy, numeracy, and oral language development while fostering independence, confidence, and a love of learning.

Family Engagement & Community Partnerships

Family and community engagement remain central to the work at Heredia-Arriaga. The school hosts Family STEM Nights that brings students and guardians together for hands-on learning experiences. Supported by staff and family volunteers, the event highlights strong community involvement and shared ownership of student learning.

Student Support & School Climate

Student and staff well-being, as well as a positive school climate, are supported through proactive systems that address social-emotional needs. These include Lobo Bucks positive behavior reinforcement, increased recess supervision, small-group social skills instruction, and staff engagement. Together, these practices reinforce shared expectations, strengthen student voice, and promote a strong sense of identity and belonging as Lobos and Heredia-Arriaga Team.

Staff collaboration and leadership development are key drivers of continuous improvement. Teachers engage in PLCs, observation and feedback cycles, and reflective practice focused on instructional growth.
